The Fire Chief shall be the chief administrative officer of the fire department. He should have direct control of management and direction of all paid and volunteer members of the fire department, with full authority to detail them to any public service he deems appropriate.

He shall have power to assign all subordinates and companies to fire duty and shall make all assignments, details, and transfers that he determines are in the best interest of the City of Coatesville. He shall perform all other related duties such as emergency management and special events coordination as deemed necessary by the city manager of the City of Coatesville.

Key Responsibilities:
Under direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief has direct responsibility in the area of fire suppression for both volunteer and career firefighters. In general, he will be the administrative assistant for the fire department. He has the responsibility of all fire department activities in the absence of the Fire Chief.

This is a very important position in that it involves keeping accurate records and statistics, handling personnel, improving efficiency in departmental procedures and methods of operation. He will assist in the establishment of all goals and objectives and will assist in the interaction of all volunteers to resolve problems which may arise to achieve an equitable solution.

Assistant 43 Randy Scott

Key Responsibilities:
Under direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief will act in the behalf of the Deputy Fire Chief in his absence, and in the Fire Chief in his absence. He will be responsible for all water supply operations in a time of emergency and will be responsible for support operations for the department.

This is a very important position involving responsibility and record keeping of all hydrants and water flows. He will keep the fire department abreast of all active status of such hydrants. He will enforce all safety rules and regulations on any emergency and will control the activity level of all junior firemen.

Under the direction of a chief officer, the fire captain has responsible charge of equipment and personnel of an assigned fire company.

This is a supervisory position involving responsibility for directing the engine company activities on the fire ground. The work is performed in accordance with the established policies, rules, and regulations and standard operating procedures of The Coatesville Fire Department. Supervises the firefighters activities at the scene of an emergency and checks to see that his men are properly assigned to complete the needed task such as laying hose, advancing hose lines, salvage operations and other emergency operations that may be needed. He is charge of the station that he represents and is in charge of the training, drills, and all activities of his company.
